WINE REVIEW #2: Cliffhanger Vineyards 2013 Pinot Grigio

On a recent dinner trip to the wonderful Tisha's here in Cape May, New Jersey, I wanted to bring along a nice bottle of white that we hadn't tried before. Noticing that it had received a high score on a shelf talker at the liquor store, I decided to pick up a bottle of this Italian pinot grigio, and I am glad I did. The first thing one notices is a strong, citrus aroma, reminiscent of sauvignon blanc. The taste however, is more subtle, with only hints of fruit coming through. It is a light, smooth, playful wine; perfect for a Spring or Summer evening. The subtle flavors would perfectly compliment seasonal dishes like grilled fish or chicken and would make for a refreshing drink while sitting poolside. It went wonderfully with the seafood risotto I had for dinner and the vanilla ice cream filled profiteroles I had for dessert, and is definitely a bottle I will be purchasing again. GRADE: A-
